Hidden From You
|
|
Hidden From You is a film tracing young activists from California, Paul Lynch and Will Thomas, as they voyage to the Gaza Strip. In 2003, on the dawn of the US-led invasion of Iraq, these two headed into the depths of Gaza; their mandate was simple: to witness what was really going on without the corporate-driven media filter of the United States.
The narrative maintains a prose-like quality to weave together a series of events that were beyond imagination. Within days the young inquirers found themselves entrenched in a web of politics, heartbreaks, explosions, bullets, incursions, tears, and laughter.
The project started out with a few short multimedia presentations, but quickly grew to a series of short films that resulted in this larger film, Hidden From You. This film is an unabashed view of life under occupation in Gaza and the experiences of two young people trying to make sense of it all. The Hidden From You project aims to continue the dialogue and shift the focus on the Middle East towards one that addresses the legitimate grievances of those negatively affected by the Israeli Occupation of Palestinians.
The next phase of this project is seeking funding to edit another film presently entitled, The Night Rachel Corrie Died. This film follows the same two characters through the day and night that activist Rachel Corrie was killed while protesting the illegal destruction of Palestinian homes. Both Will and Paul met Rachel the day before this incident and uncovered some other interesting facts about this evening, the type of facts that were not presented by the mainstream media in the US. Stay Tuned!

The Night Rachel Corrie Died is a film looking at what else happened the night the young activist was killed. It is a window into the way "News" is filtered into the eyes of the US polity.
